letter-sound knowledge: the knowledge that letter/s is/are associated with a sound. 

​

literacy skills: the ability to read and write 

​

object permanence: appear around 9 months, the acknowledgement that object still exists even though you cannot see them e.g. a child looks for the toy when mom hides it

​

preliteracy skills: ability needed to prepare later reading and writing, this includes vocabulary and print awareness

 

phonological awareness: the knowledge of how sounds work in a word, such as a child can discriminate, manipulate sounds in a word

​

print awareness: the knowledge of how prints work such as we read from top to bottom, left to right. 

​

pragmatic skills: a social langauge skills such as eye contact, turn taking, comment, respond or criticize

​
